On Thursday March 29th, Horn Relief will be celebrating its 20 year anniversary and unveiling its new name – Adeso – as well as its new logo and website in an event held in Nairobi, Kenya, at Zen Garden, from 12-2pm. The event will feature presentations and visuals showing stories of hope and achievements from Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya. The event will feature a presentation by Adeso’s founder, and renowned environmentalist, Fatima Jibrell. Born into a nomadic pastoralist family in Somalia, Fatima’s story is one of love for her people and the environment that supports their way of life. In 2002, Fatima was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize, the most prestigious grassroots environmental award. In 2007, her work to build peace, advocate for better environmental practices and protect the livelihoods of Somali’s pastoralists was again recognized when she won the National Geographic/Buffet Award for Leadership in African Conservation.
Honorable guests at the event will also include representatives from Puntland State of Somalia, including Hon. Asha Gele Dirie (Minister of Women Development and Family Affairs) and Hon. Mohamud Haji Salah (Minister of Agriculture). Over 180 representatives from embassies, donor agencies, the United Nations, Non-governmental organizations, and the private sector are expected to attend the event.
The two-hour event will include the screening of two new short documentaries on the organization’s work in Somalia, Kenya, and South Sudan.
