The Maakhir Community in Kenya and all of Africa would like to disclaim the information broadcasted by the BBC – Somali Service stating foreigners were detained in the city of Laasqoray.
In an interview it conducted with Puntland Administration President Abdurahman Farole on March 4, 2011, the BBC questioned him about the Danish family abducted by pirates. The journalist stated that the criminals were holding the Danish family in the port city of Lasqoray. That information is false and misleading.
It is a documented fact that the innocent Danish family is being held off the coast of Mudug and subsequent interviews on the BBC-Somali (March 6, 2011) and VOA-Somali by the Mayor of Banderbeyla pertaining to this issue clearly demonstrate that the Danish family are held captive in the Mudug region.
Therefore, the Maakhir Community would like to inform the Danish government that we strongly condemn the kidnapping of innocent people by the pirates. We hope for the safe return of the Danish family to their homeland.
We would also like to inform the International Community that Lasqoray is a safe city. Since the demise of the Somali central government in 1991, the Maakhir regions (Sanaag, Haylaan and Western Bari) have maintained peace and stability. In this press release we invite all donors, aid workers and the International Community to our region and inform them that in Maakhir law and order prevail
