SOMALIA: Badhan receives first district council

The district administrative council which recently picked up has elected the district commissioner and the deputy commissioner of Badhan district of  Sanaag region in Somalia.

The election of Badhan district commissioner came days after the nomination of members of district council was successfully completed.

The election which was on Monday was held in Badhan district hall where Puntland ministers are currently visiting.

The candidates running for the district commissioner were three famous individuals, Ayub Ibrahim findhe, Bashir Ahmed Salah and Abdirisak Ahmed Isse.

Abdirisak Ahmed Isse later won the election of Badhan district commissioner as he received unanimously 23 votes beating his rivals.

The deputy district commissioner was also elected for Saynab Abdi Aar, the first female stands for such title.

In a brief speech addressed by the new elected commissioners they have under taken to serve equally for the people of district and will work hard against many obstacles facing the district including severe drought and water shortage in whole eastern Sanag region.

This becomes first council for Badhan which Badhan lies in the centre of Sanaag region.  For the last five years the town was experiencing a period of rapid growth, Similar to any other small town in Somalia.
