The Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, congratulated Banadir (Mogadishu) team for capturing the trophy with a 1-0 finals victory over Bari region. He also praised other teams which were part of the tournament.
A total of 15 regions, out of Somalia’s 18 regions, participated in the tournament.
The Prime Minister said:
“As the first tournament in two decades, we’re very delighted with what this has done for our youth and the public at large. It has driven social interactions – strengthening peace and understanding among youth from different regions and providing football career development opportunities by creating a supply chain of footballers to the higher level.
“The 2010 Tournament has been an outstanding success for the Somali people. We couldn’t be happier. We congratulate and thank the leadership and people of Somali State of Puntland for nobly hosting an excellent tournament. We also thank the Somali Football Federation for organizing it.
“My Government sees sports and, of course, such tournaments as an important tool to engage youth and make them more productive. The organizers can count on our full support in future annual tournaments.”
